Tuesday , May 19, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -he leader of the Wadajir Party, Abdiraxmaan Abdishakuur Warsame, has sharply criticized Somalia’s federal government, accusing President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of remaining in Villa Somalia “illegally for five days” and alleging that the government is blocking peaceful opposition demonstrations.
Cabdiraxmaan made the remarks during a political gathering attended by opposition figures, where he urged Somali citizens to participate in a peaceful protest scheduled to take place in Mogadishu on June 4.
“Hassan Sheikh has been staying in Villa Somalia illegally for five days. On June 4, we will come out for a peaceful demonstration, but Hassan Sheikh does not allow peaceful protests,” Cabdiraxmaan said.
The Wadajir leader accused the federal government of violating constitutional rights, particularly freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly. He said the planned protest is intended to peacefully express opposition concerns regarding the country’s political direction and governance.
He also called on Somali security forces to protect protesters and remain neutral in political matters.
The Federal Government of Somalia has not yet officially responded to the opposition’s allegations or comments regarding restrictions on public demonstrations.
In recent days, Mogadishu has witnessed increased political activity and meetings involving opposition leaders, many of whom have voiced concerns over elections, constitutional matters, and the future leadership of the country.
Political analysts warn that tensions could escalate further in the coming weeks, as additional political gatherings and demonstrations are expected in the capital.
