Monday , June 8, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -An armed group attacked a commercial establishment in Galkayo on Friday night, leaving one man injured in what local sources describe as a suspected targeted attack linked to clan-related tensions.
Eyewitnesses reported that armed assailants entered the business premises and opened fire before fleeing the scene. The injured victim was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment, while security forces later arrived and cordoned off the area as investigations began.
Preliminary reports suggest the incident may be connected to longstanding clan disputes in the city, although authorities have not officially confirmed the motive.
A City with a History of Recurrent Clan Violence
Galkayo, the capital of the Mudug region, has long been considered one of central Somalia’s most politically and socially sensitive cities due to its division between Puntland and Galmudug administrations and recurring clan-related tensions.
Over the years, the city has witnessed multiple outbreaks of violence linked to rival clan groups and political disputes.
Despite repeated reconciliation efforts by local elders and authorities, sporadic violence continues to erupt, especially in commercial areas where rival interests intersect.
Security forces have increased patrols in the area following tonight’s incident.
