Sunday , June 14, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Former Somali Foreign Minister Abdisaacid Muse Ali Koor has expressed concern over the deteriorating political and security situation in Mogadishu following recent clashes in the capital and opposition allegations that senior political figures have been targeted.
Speaking on the ongoing electoral dispute, Koor warned that any attempt to resolve political disagreements through military force could deepen divisions within the country and push Somalia into a more severe political and security crisis.
He also cited reports indicating that some diplomatic missions based within Halane Compound have prepared contingency plans to relocate operations to Nairobi, describing the reported move as a reflection of growing concerns over the security environment.
Koor urged Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and members of the Damul Jadiid political group to return to internationally supported political dialogue and reach consensus on an inclusive electoral framework acceptable to all stakeholders.
He further stressed the importance of managing political competition through constitutional and democratic processes to prevent the current tensions from escalating beyond control.
The reported plans by diplomatic missions to relocate have not been independently verified, and no official statements have been issued by the embassies concerned.
