Wednesday , June 3, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire has relocated to a new residence in Mogadishuâs Howlwadaag district, significantly closer to Villa Somalia, according to sources familiar with the move.
Sources told local media that Mr Khaire, who is also a presidential candidate, recently left the heavily secured Hotel Jazeera compound near Aden Adde International Airport and moved to an area near the Sayidka Monument, approximately one kilometre from the presidential palace.
The new location is close to one of the main security checkpoints controlling access to Villa Somalia and is regarded as a strategically important area in the capital.
According to sources, the move is intended to facilitate the mobilisation of anti-government demonstrations opposing a proposed extension of the current administrationâs tenure. Opposition groups are expected to organise political gatherings and protests in the area in the coming days.
The situation in Mogadishu remains tense, with opposition figures and supporters accusing President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of seeking to remain in power beyond the end of his mandate. Opposition leaders have vowed to resist any attempt to extend the governmentâs term and have called for a political process that adheres to constitutional and electoral principles.
Meanwhile, security measures have reportedly been tightened across several key roads in the capital. Sources also report increased political mobilisation in the Mirinaayo area linked to former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
The federal government has not publicly commented on the reported developments. Independent verification of some claims made by opposition figures remains limited.
