Thursday, June 4, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Heavy fighting has continued since Wednesday afternoon at two separate locations in Mogadishu, amid escalating political tensions in the capital.

One of the main flashpoints is near the residence of former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire in the Howlwadaag district. The second area of confrontation is the Mirinaayo neighbourhood in Abdiaziz district, where forces loyal to former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed are based.

The clashes began on Wednesday afternoon and have continued through the night, with intense exchanges of gunfire reported in both locations. The violence followed calls by opposition groups for demonstrations against the Somali president, as government forces moved to prevent and contain opposition gatherings across different parts of the capital.

The security situation in Mogadishu remains highly volatile, with no immediate official information on casualties or damage.
