Friday , May 15, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The European Union has signaled that Somalia is entering a new political phase and stressed the urgent need for an agreement on elections today.

The European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, published a statement on X highlighting four key political points:

A New Phase – The international community recognizes that Somalia is entering a transitional political period and is closely monitoring the ongoing talks in Mogadishu.

A Practical Electoral Framework – The European Union indirectly called for the adoption of an electoral model that is realistic and implementable, taking into account time, security, and financial constraints while avoiding further delays.

Women and Youth Inclusion – Somali leaders were urged to ensure that any political agreement is inclusive and does not exclude the voices, participation, and future of women and young people.

A Clear Roadmap – International partners are awaiting a joint communiqué expected today, along with a credible timeline that would guide a peaceful political transition.

The message, which directly tagged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is being viewed as a strong reminder that continued international support will depend on reaching an inclusive and workable political agreement.
