Tuesday, May 26, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The President’s Office is reportedly planning a major deployment of security forces in Mogadishu ahead of Thursday, in what sources say is a move aimed at preventing expected protests and managing opposition activity in the capital.
According to informed sources, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting with selected security officials aligned with his sub-clan, during which he allegedly instructed them to prepare for measures against what he described as “armed opposition groups.” The focus is said to include two prominent opposition presidential candidates, previously linked to the Badbaado Qaran alliance.
Some security institutions have reportedly not been briefed on the plan, amid ongoing mistrust and divisions linked to the electoral process.
There are also concerns that the operation could include action against armed escorts accompanying opposition figures during demonstrations. Analysts warn that any escalation, including potential raids on residences of political figures, could significantly heighten tensions in the capital.
