Mogadishu, Somalia – June 2, 2026 ( Baidoaonline)- Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre has reaffirmed that the demonstrations planned for June 4 will proceed as scheduled, according to statements attributed to him by local sources.

Speaking about the planned protests, Khayre reportedly called on citizens to participate in the demonstrations and urged supporters to mobilize ahead of the event. He also criticized President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, describing him as a leader whose mandate expired on May 15, 2026.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Khayre emphasized the need for public action and encouraged Somalis to voice their concerns through peaceful demonstrations.

The developments come amid growing political tensions in Mogadishu, where divisions between the government and opposition groups appear to be deepening. Political observers note that efforts to reach a compromise have so far shown limited progress, raising concerns about the potential for further instability if dialogue between the opposing sides does not advance.

The Federal Government has not yet publicly responded to Khayre’s latest remarks. Meanwhile, security agencies are expected to closely monitor the situation as preparations for the planned demonstrations continue.

Analysts have urged all stakeholders to pursue peaceful dialogue and respect constitutional and legal processes to safeguard stability and public order.
