Sunday , June 14, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Residents of Caabudwaaq district in central Somalia staged a protest today expressing opposition to the Federal Governmentâs electoral framework and the administration of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The demonstration, held in Abudwak townâthe administrative seat of Abudwak District in the northern Galgaduud regionâcentered on demands for an electoral process that is not imposed from above. Protesters stated that they reject what they described as unilateral election arrangements and called for broader consultation with local communities.
Reports from the area indicated the presence of heavily armed vehicles and armed troops during the demonstration., the armed personnel present were reportedly aligned with and supportive of the protesters, voicing opposition to the implementation of the federal governmentâs electoral plans in the area.
Demonstrators and allied armed personnel stated that they would not accept any electoral process they believe is imposed without local consent. They emphasized the need for dialogue and political accommodation between federal authorities and regional communities to prevent further escalation of tensions.
Despite the charged political atmosphere and visible armed presence, the situation remained relatively stable as the demonstration continued, with residents maintaining their protest activities in the town.
