Wednesday, May 20, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Residents who were reportedly evicted from their homes in the Buulo-Daa’uud area of Shibis District staged protests today near the location where their houses once stood, expressing frustration over demolitions and alleged forced displacement.

The demonstrators, including women, youth, and elderly residents, were seen covering their faces and hands during the protest in what many described as a symbolic expression of helplessness and fear amid the ongoing government operation. Protesters said the gesture reflected their belief that they had been left without a voice or protection after losing their homes.

Witnesses at the scene said the displaced families gathered in the area to condemn the demolitions and to call attention to the hardships now facing affected residents, many of whom claim they were not given prior notice, compensation, or relocation assistance.

Residents accused authorities of using force during the operation and alleged that some individuals who attempted to resist the demolitions or question the actions of security forces were detained.

Photos from the protest showed emotionally charged scenes as displaced families stood among the rubble of destroyed homes, with many calling on the government to halt further demolitions and address the grievances of local residents.

No official statement has yet been released by the Shibis District administration or federal authorities regarding the allegations surrounding the evictions and arrests.
