Friday , May 15, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire has strongly criticised remarks made by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud regarding the duration of his mandate, accusing him of misleading the Somali public over his constitutional term.
Speaking at a meeting held at Jazeera Hotel in Mogadishu, Mr Khaire reacted to comments by the President, whose opponents say his constitutional term ended on 15 May 2026.
“The President told us tonight that his term ends on 15 May 2027. That is a mistake he has committed against the Somali people and the nation,” Mr Khaire said.
The remarks come amid growing political tensions and disagreements between the Federal Government and opposition leaders over the country’s electoral process and constitutional legitimacy.
