Sunday, May 24, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The former president said that the current political leadership is operating beyond its legitimate mandate, claiming that “the president’s mandate has expired,” and warning that the country is entering a period of heightened political and security uncertainty.
He urged the population to prepare for what he described as a “high uncertainty period,” arguing that ongoing governance and security practices are deepening public frustration and instability in the capital.
Sheikh Sharif further warned that continued misuse of power would have long-term consequences, stating that “any dictator will eventually face punishment,” and emphasizing that no leadership can remain in power indefinitely without accountability.
He also highlighted the hardships faced by residents of Mogadishu, saying the population has endured years of insecurity, economic pressure, and restrictions on movement due to excessive checkpoints and security operations.
According to him, these conditions have negatively affected daily life, disrupted business activities, and increased hardship for ordinary citizens already struggling with economic challenges.
The former president called for urgent reforms in security management, insisting that checkpoints must be regulated, transparent, and strictly limited to legitimate security purposes rather than being used as a source of revenue or control over civilians.
His remarks come amid ongoing political tension in Somalia, where opposition figures have increasingly questioned governance practices and the direction of national security policy.
The federal government has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
