Wednesday , June 3, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Somalia's opposition has condemned the attack on former national leaders in Mogadishu, describing it as a threat to democratic freedoms and political stability.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the opposition accused the federal government of using security forces against political opponents and called on members of the armed forces to remain neutral and uphold their constitutional duties.

The opposition also criticised President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, referring to him as a leader whose mandate has expired, and warned that actions targeting political rivals could further deepen tensions in the country.

It urged all parties to avoid violence and called for dialogue to resolve political differences through peaceful means.

The statement came amid clashes in Mogadishu and attacks on former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.

The developments are expected to intensify concerns over Somalia's political and security situation as tensions continue to rise in the capital.
