Monday , June 1, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The international community has called for urgent dialogue and restraint among Somali political actors amid growing concerns over the country’s political situation.
In a joint statement released on 1 June 2026, a group of international partners expressed concern over recent developments and urged all stakeholders to return to negotiations in order to avoid further escalation of tensions.
The statement emphasized the need for Somali leaders to resume talks aimed at agreeing on an inclusive electoral roadmap that reflects the interests of the Somali population.
“We call on all sides to resume dialogue as soon as possible, and to swiftly reach consensus on an election roadmap in the interest of the Somali people,” the statement read.
The signatories stressed that a negotiated and peaceful settlement remains the only viable path forward, noting that growing political uncertainty risks undermining stability in the country. They also reiterated readiness to support Somali-led dialogue efforts if requested.
Diplomatic missions and international organizations backing the statement include representatives from European and African partners, as well as United Nations officials in Somalia. Among the signatories are missions from Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.
The international partners further urged Somali leaders to exercise restraint and prioritize national stability, warning that unilateral actions could deepen divisions and heighten tensions.
They reaffirmed continued support for Somalia’s peacebuilding and democratic transition process, stressing the importance of consensus-based political solutions.
