Wednesday, May 20, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The Federal Republic of Somalia has strongly condemned plans by the northwestern region of Somalia to inaugurate what it described as a “so-called embassy” in Jerusalem, warning that the action has no legal standing and undermines Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In an official press statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Somali government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to preserving the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country.

The statement said Somalia “categorically rejects any unilateral actions or measures that undermine the legal and political status of the Somali state or contravene international legitimacy and the relevant resolutions of regional and international organizations.”

The government specifically condemned “the move by the northwestern region of Somalia to inaugurate a so-called embassy in Jerusalem,” stressing that the step is “entirely null and void from a legal standpoint” and carries “no legal effect whatsoever.”

Somalia further described the reported move as “an unacceptable provocation to the Arab and Islamic worlds.”

The statement comes amid continued international sensitivity surrounding the status of Jerusalem, a city at the center of longstanding diplomatic and geopolitical disputes.

The Federal Government reiterated that foreign affairs and diplomatic representation remain the exclusive responsibility of Somalia’s internationally recognized federal authorities.
