Thursday, June 4, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -An armoured vehicle reportedly supplied by Türkiye to Somali federal forces was burned during heavy overnight fighting linked to an assault near the residence of former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, according to local sources.
The destroyed vehicle was seen in the aftermath of intense clashes that erupted in the capital and have continued for more than 12 hours, with fighting concentrated in parts of northern Mogadishu.
Residents and local reports indicate that intermittent exchanges of fire are still ongoing in several areas, including parts of the city’s northern districts.
The developments come amid heightened political tensions in Mogadishu, where concerns have previously been raised over the proliferation of heavy weaponry among Somali political and security actors in the absence of a sustained political agreement.
