Tuesday, June 2, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed reportedly relocated late Monday night to the Mirinaayo neighborhood in Mogadishu’s Abdiaziz District as preparations intensify for a planned public demonstration on June 4.
Sources indicate that Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, accompanied by his personal security personnel, left his residence near Aden Adde International Airport and moved to Mirinaayo, where organizers are mobilizing supporters ahead of the gathering.
The planned demonstration is expected to focus on opposition to any extension of the term of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Opposition leaders and supporters have expressed concerns over political developments and have called for adherence to constitutional and electoral processes.
The move by Sharif Sheikh Ahmed is being viewed by observers as a significant political development amid growing tensions between the federal government and opposition figures over Somalia’s political future.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the planned protest. Security conditions in the capital remain under close monitoring as the date of the demonstration approaches.
