Wednesday, June 10, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Aadan Mohamed Nur (Aadan Madobe) has been declared the winner of the Southwest State leadership election following a voting process that lasted less than 40 minutes, becoming the region’s new leader.
The election, however, was overshadowed by controversy after rival candidates withdrew from the process and argued that the events in Baidoa could not be described as a credible election.
Opposition figures alleged that security forces supportive of Aadan Madobe took control of the election venue prior to the vote, a development they said further heightened tensions surrounding the process. Additional claims were made regarding restrictions imposed on lawmakers, including reports that members of parliament were permitted to enter the venue with mobile phones and were subject to various arrangements ahead of the vote.
Despite the controversy, the voting proceeded and concluded with Aadan Madobe being declared the winner. The outcome is expected to fuel further political debate over the legitimacy and transparency of the electoral process in Southwest State.
