Tuesday , June 16, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit has strongly condemned the visit of the President of Somaliland to Jerusalem and the opening of a building referred to as an “embassy.”
In a statement, the Arab League described the move as illegal and said it undermines Somalia’s unity and sovereignty. The organization reiterated its firm support for the Federal Republic of Somalia and its territorial integrity.
The Arab League further emphasized that any diplomatic engagement of this nature is inconsistent with international law and does not reflect the official position of Arab states regarding Somalia’s sovereignty.
The statement comes amid continued regional and international sensitivity surrounding diplomatic relations involving Somaliland and contested political recognition issues.
