Wednesday, June 17, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Heavy inter-clan fighting has been reported in Jalalaqsi town in Somalia’s Hiraan region, with clashes breaking out late on Wednesday afternoon, according to local sources.

The violence is said to have been triggered by a series of alleged sexual violence incidents involving members of two local clans. Residents report that tensions escalated after a young girl was reportedly raped in the town on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, reports emerged that three young men allegedly carried out a retaliatory assault against another girl from the opposing clan, an incident that further inflamed tensions and led to armed clashes between the communities.

The situation quickly deteriorated into full-scale fighting between the two clans, forcing many civilians to flee their homes amid fears of further violence.

Local residents say the town remains tense, with sporadic gunfire reported in some areas. The number of casualties has not yet been independently confirmed.

Hiraan region has experienced repeated episodes of inter-clan violence in recent years, often triggered by localized disputes that escalate rapidly due to long-standing tensions between communities.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the latest clashes or efforts to restore calm.
