Monday, June 15, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -– A high-level Turkish delegation led by Ahmet Cemalettin Çelik, the Deputy Head of Turkish Intelligence, is expected to arrive in Mogadishu tomorrow as part of Ankara’s ongoing efforts to facilitate political dialogue between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and opposition leaders.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the visit is aimed at advancing Turkish-mediated discussions intended to bring Somalia’s federal leadership and opposition figures to the negotiating table amid growing political tensions over electoral arrangements, constitutional reforms, and other key national issues.

The delegation is expected to hold a series of meetings with senior government officials, opposition leaders, and influential political stakeholders to explore avenues for dialogue and consensus-building.

Türkiye has long been one of Somalia’s closest international partners, playing a significant role in security cooperation, military training, infrastructure development, humanitarian assistance, and state-building efforts. In recent years, Ankara has also increased its diplomatic engagement in efforts to ease political disputes and encourage dialogue among Somali political actors.

Political observers view the visit by Ahmet Cemalettin Çelik as a sign of Türkiye’s continued commitment to supporting stability and political reconciliation in Somalia at a time when relations between the government and opposition remain strained.

While no formal talks have yet been announced, the visit is widely seen as part of a broader diplomatic initiative aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging a political settlement between Somalia’s competing political forces.
