Thursday, June 11, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Tensions escalated in Mogadishu’s Abdiaziz District on Thursday morning after government security forces reportedly used live ammunition against residents protesting the demolition of homes in the area.
According to local sources, clashes broke out along the road leading to Lido Beach, near the Police Transport Unit headquarters in Abdiaziz District. Witnesses reported that demonstrators initially gathered to protest ongoing demolitions before confrontations erupted between security forces and protesters.
Residents say security personnel opened fire to disperse the crowd, prompting some protesters to respond by throwing stones. The situation quickly escalated into running clashes involving gunfire and stone-throwing.
The deteriorating security situation has reportedly triggered the displacement of civilians, with many residents fleeing parts of the district out of concern for their safety.
