Sunday , June 14, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Hundreds of armed clan militia members gathered in Abudwak town, in the northern Galgaduud region of Galmudug State, staging a large-scale demonstration against the proposed one-person, one-vote electoral process being promoted by the Federal Government of Somalia.

Participants paraded heavily armed technical vehicles and displayed a significant number of weapons during the rally. Demonstrators declared their opposition to what they described as a unilateral election plan and called for broader political consensus before any major electoral changes are implemented.

Armed fighters participating in the rally vowed to reject any electoral process they believe is being imposed without consultation and warned that they would resist efforts that undermine the interests of their communities.

The demonstration was notable not only for its size but also for the visible presence of heavily armed forces and military vehicles. Local observers described it as an unprecedented development in Abudwak and one of the most significant displays of armed political opposition seen in Galmudug in recent years.

The event highlights growing political tensions surrounding Somalia’s electoral future, as debates continue over the implementation of a one-person, one-vote system and the broader constitutional and political reforms being pursued by the federal government.
