Friday, May 29, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Reports from Somalia’s Middle Jubba region indicate that intense overnight airstrikes targeted an Al-Shabaab base on the outskirts of Jilib, resulting in what local sources describe as significant casualties and destruction.

Residents reported hearing multiple explosions late at night, followed by sustained aircraft activity as warplanes carried out coordinated strikes against suspected militant positions.

Security sources linked to Somalia’s intelligence apparatus confirmed that the operation inflicted heavy losses on Al-Shabaab fighters, although they did not provide exact casualty figures. Officials added that the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) is expected to release an official statement after completing its assessment.

According to security officials, the airstrikes were conducted by international partners supporting Somalia in its ongoing counterterrorism operations against Al-Shabaab.

Additional air operations were also reported in parts of Lower Shabelle and Middle Jubba regions, as pressure continues on militant positions across southern Somalia.
