Wednesday, June 17, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has stated that Israel and Somaliland have engaged in years of discreet cooperation on a series of security-related activities, though he did not disclose the nature of the operations or where they were conducted.

Speaking alongside Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), Katz said the two sides had maintained a low-profile partnership for several years and were now working to expand their cooperation, particularly in the field of security.

According to Katz, discussions are underway to strengthen bilateral ties and deepen coordination between the two sides. However, he did not provide specific details regarding the scope of the cooperation, the security initiatives involved, or any future joint activities under consideration.

The remarks come amid growing attention to Somaliland’s efforts to expand its international partnerships and diplomatic engagement. The comments are likely to attract interest across the Horn of Africa, where regional security, maritime routes, and geopolitical competition remain key strategic concerns.

Neither side publicly outlined the exact framework of the reported cooperation, leaving questions about the extent and objectives of the security relationship between Israel and Somaliland. Officials have yet to release further details on the agreements or initiatives discussed during the meeting.
