Wednesday , June 3, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The Jubbaland regional administration has strongly accused Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of pushing the country back toward civil conflict and reversing hard-won progress toward stability, warning that his recent actions pose a serious and long-anticipated threat to national peace.
In a strongly worded statement, the Jubbaland government condemned what it described as attacks carried out earlier today and tonight on the residences of former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire in Mogadishu.
The statement claims that the incidents occurred while ongoing peace efforts were taking place at the residence of former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, where traditional elders—led by Ugaas Cabdirisaaq Ugaas Cabdullaahi of the Murursade clan—were engaged in mediation efforts aimed at resolving political disagreements.
Jubbaland further stated that the targeted leaders were also preparing for a peaceful demonstration against forced displacement of civilians, arrests of individuals expressing political opinions, and alleged unconstitutional term extensions.
According to the administration, these actions violate fundamental constitutional rights and principles, including freedom of expression and peaceful political participation. It warned that the use of state power for intimidation, political pressure, or suppression of civic rights is unacceptable.
The statement also alleged that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has resisted efforts to reach a political settlement on the country’s electoral process and future governance framework, claiming that recent dialogue attempts demonstrated a lack of willingness to reach consensus or agree on a transitional arrangement.
Jubbaland concluded that the only viable path out of the current political crisis is inclusive dialogue, mutual understanding, and a broadly agreed electoral framework that ensures national consensus and stability.
