Saturday , May 23, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The Somali Police Force has accused a group of young people who were peacefully expressing their grievances of being involved in riots and activities deemed a threat to national security, amid growing political tensions in the capital.

According to reports from Mogadishu, the youths had gathered to voice concerns over the current political situation and ongoing disputes related to the country’s governance, including claims by opposition groups that the government’s mandate has expired.

Security authorities stated that they are taking necessary measures to prevent any actions that could destabilize public order. However, eyewitnesses and local residents allege that security forces used forceful methods to disperse demonstrators who were largely peaceful.

Residents in several parts of Mogadishu report an increased presence of security personnel and heightened restrictions on public gatherings, particularly in areas considered potential hotspots for demonstrations.

Critics of the government accuse the authorities of suppressing dissent and restricting freedom of expression, while government supporters argue that the security operations are necessary to maintain stability and prevent unrest in the capital.

The political situation in Somalia continues to remain tense, with opposition groups calling for large-scale protests in the coming days. The government, meanwhile, insists that it is committed to maintaining law and order across the country.
