Wednesday , June 3, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Member of Parliament Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame has strongly condemned the reported attack on former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, as well as traditional leaders and elders involved in efforts to mediate Somalia’s ongoing political tensions.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Abdishakur said the incident targeted political leaders, traditional elders, and community figures who were engaged in initiatives aimed at promoting peace and resolving political disputes.
He described the attack as a dangerous development, warning that the use of state power against political figures and community elders reflects deep political instability and risks further escalation of tensions.
“The targeting of politicians, elders, and traditional leaders is a cowardly act that reflects political confusion and the fueling of conflict,” the MP said in his statement. He emphasized that traditional leaders are not parties to political conflict, but rather serve as key pillars of peacebuilding, unity, and conflict resolution in Somali society.
Abdishakur further warned that any administration that has exceeded its mandate and resorts to the use of military force against political opponents, civic leaders, or elders risks long-term consequences and national instability.
He also called on members of the Somali security forces to maintain neutrality and avoid involvement in political disputes, urging them to reject any orders that target civilians, elders, or political figures.
“The armed forces exist to defend the nation and its people, not to be used for political interests,” he added.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Mogadishu, where reports of clashes and increased security operations have raised concerns about the country’s stability and the safety of political actors involved in ongoing dialogue efforts.
At the time of publication, the Federal Government of Somalia had not issued an official response to the statements made by the MP.
