Wednesday, May 20, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, a member of Somalia’s opposition politicians, has accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of mobilising new military forces which he claims are intended to suppress political opponents.
Speaking publicly, Warsame said the opposition was aware of troops allegedly trained in Somalia’s central regions, as well as additional brigades which he claimed were being assembled under the authority of the president for political purposes.
“We are aware that Hassan Sheikh is organising military forces. He is preparing troops trained in the central regions, and we know of new brigades being assembled. We are also aware of forces stationed under TurkSom that he intends to deploy,” Warsame said.
The president’s office has not yet responded to the allegations.
