Tuesday , June 16, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Puntland authorities have accused Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of actions they claim are contributing to political instability and threatening the country’s unity, amid escalating tensions between the Federal Government and Puntland State.

In a strongly worded statement, Puntland’s Minister of the Presidency alleged that Somalia’s national cohesion and state-building efforts are being undermined under President Hassan Sheikh’s leadership. The minister criticized the federal administration over a range of issues, including governance disputes, political tensions, and security concerns.

“The reality is that Somalia’s nationhood and unity are being weakened under President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud,” the minister said. He further accused the president of prioritizing political interests over national reconciliation and consensus-building.

The Puntland official also argued that Somalia’s political challenges cannot be resolved through unilateral decisions, force, or political pressure. Instead, he called for inclusive dialogue and a broadly accepted electoral process as the path toward a lasting solution.

“The solution for Somalia lies in bringing leadership and stakeholders together to reach a mutually agreed political settlement and an election accepted by all sides,” he stated.

The remarks come amid ongoing disagreements between Puntland and the Federal Government over constitutional amendments, electoral arrangements, and the distribution of powers between Mogadishu and federal member states

The Federal Government has not yet publicly responded to the latest comments from Puntland officials.
