Tuesday , June 16, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Directors General of Fisheries Ministries from the Federal Member States of Hirshabelle, South West, Jubaland, and Galmudug have officially opposed the approval of the National Fisheries Resource Assessment Strategy (2026–2031), citing a lack of consultation during its preparation.
In a joint position, the officials stated that the strategy was developed without adequate involvement of relevant regional authorities and stakeholders, raising concerns over inclusivity and coordination in national resource planning.
The directors called for the postponement of the strategy’s approval, urging the Federal Government to initiate comprehensive consultations with all concerned parties before moving forward
They emphasized that meaningful participation is essential to ensure transparency, cooperation, and the sustainable management of Somalia’s fisheries resources.
The Federal Government has yet to issue an official response to the concerns raised by the regional officials.
