Wednesday, June 10, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -internet services are expected to be temporarily disrupted in parts of Mogadishu on Wednesday night, according to sources and service provider, prompting concern among some residents as the city remains on edge amid a tense political and security environment.
According to our sources, the planned outages are not connected to the ongoing political tensions or recent security deployments in the Somali capital. Representatives of the service providers involved said the interruptions are part of routine maintenance work that is usually carried out during late-night hours to minimize inconvenience to customers.
The announcement comes at a sensitive time for Mogadishu, where security forces have increased their presence in several areas amid growing political uncertainty. Particular attention has been focused on the Ceelqalow and Buula-Xuubey areas of Wadajir District, where residents have reported heightened security activity in recent days.
Some electricity providers contacted by our newsroom have dismissed circulating messages on social media claiming politically linked power cuts, describing them as false and misleading. They emphasized that there are no scheduled outages connected to security operations or political developments, and urged the public to rely on official announcements rather than unverified online reports.
In contrast, internet service providers confirmed that they will carry out routine maintenance work during the night. They said the planned maintenance is a standard technical procedure and is not related to any political or security situation in the country.
Despite these clarifications, the timing of the planned service interruptions has generated speculation among some residents and political observers. Several opposition figures told us they remain vigilant and are closely monitoring developments, citing concerns over recent security measures and government actions.
There is no evidence that the planned service disruptions are linked to any security operation, and no official statement has suggested otherwise. Sources familiar with the matter maintain that the outages are solely related to scheduled maintenance and routine system upgrades.
