Tuesday, May 26, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed’s political party, Himilo Qaran, has strongly rejected recent remarks by the Mogadishu police commander regarding the possible arrest of former national leaders accused of organizing anti-government demonstrations in Mogadishu.

The party accused security forces of carrying out intimidation, harassment, and alleged abuses against civilians in the capital, stating that it is compiling and documenting the identities of police officers allegedly involved in torture and unlawful actions. According to party officials, the information will soon be made public “so that the Somali people and the international community can be aware of their actions.”

Himilo Qaran further argued that the current federal government lacks a legitimate mandate and is remaining in office unlawfully, claiming that it therefore has no authority to impose restrictions on political activities or public demonstrations.

He warned that individuals responsible for alleged abuses and intimidation would eventually face legal accountability, adding that those involved are among the first to be listed for future investigations and possible prosecution.
