Saturday , May 30, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -A group of Somali federal lawmakers whose terms have been extended have sent a formal letter to international envoys and foreign embassies, urging accountability measures against senior officials within Somalia’s security institutions.

In the letter, the MPs called for scrutiny of high-ranking officers, including the Commander of the Banaadir Regional Police, Mahdi Cumar Mumin, accusing him and his subordinates of serious misconduct related to security operations in Mogadishu.

The lawmakers urged the international community to consider a range of measures, including targeted sanctions, asset freezes, and travel bans against the officials named in their petition. They also called for an international investigation that could potentially lead to prosecution for alleged human rights violations.

The officials in question have not yet publicly responded to the allegations.

The development comes amid ongoing political tensions in Somalia, where disputes over governance, security leadership, and institutional authority continue to draw domestic and international attention.
