Sunday , June 7, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Somali government security forces have reportedly withdrawn to Mogadishu following an overnight operation in the Middle Shabelle region that did not achieve its intended objectives, according to local sources and preliminary field reports.
The operation targeted armed personnel allegedly aligned with a faction linked to Minister Abdullahi Mohamed Noor. Security forces were deployed with the aim of disarming or apprehending the group. However, the mission encountered unexpected resistance and logistical difficulties on the ground.
Reports indicate that the targeted armed group managed to evade capture, with local fighters allegedly using their strong familiarity with the terrain to disrupt the movement and coordination of government forces. This advantage is said to have played a key role in the breakdown of the planned operation.
Following the unsuccessful attempt, commanders reportedly ordered the deployed units to return to their bases in Mogadishu. Military sources also suggest that the armed personnel involved in the confrontation have repositioned themselves in the Cadow Uul area of the Middle Shabelle region.
At this stage, there has been no official statement from the Federal Government of Somalia confirming the full details of the operation, its objectives, or its outcome.
Security operations in Middle Shabelle and surrounding regions have intensified in recent months as government forces continue efforts to stabilize areas affected by armed groups and clan-based militias.
