Wednesday, May 20, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The Turkish government has, in the past few hours, delivered military vehicles to Mogadishu intended for Somalia’s elite Gorgor Commando Brigade, officially known as the 33rd Battalion of the Somali National Army.

The delivery reportedly included armored and operational vehicles designed to strengthen the mobility and operational capacity of the special forces unit, which plays a key role in counter-terrorism and high-risk military operations across the country.

According to security sources, the equipment was offloaded in Mogadishu and is expected to be integrated into the Gorgor Brigade’s logistics and rapid response operations. The unit has been at the forefront of recent offensives against armed groups in several regions of Somalia.

The Somali government has consistently received military training, equipment, and logistical support from Turkey as part of broader defense cooperation between the two countries. The Gorgor forces, in particular, have benefited from Turkish training programs aimed at enhancing professionalism and combat readiness within the Somali National Army.

Neither the Somali Ministry of Defence nor Turkish officials have released detailed public statements regarding the specific number or type of vehicles delivered in this latest shipment.

The development comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen its national security institutions and expand the capacity of its specialized military units.
