Friday, June 5, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says at least 13 people were killed and 189 others injured during recent clashes between Somali government forces and opposition-aligned fighters in Mogadishu.

In a report released on Friday, UNHCR said the violence also forced approximately 12,500 families to flee their homes, including large numbers of women and children, raising concerns about the growing humanitarian impact of the conflict.

The fighting, which erupted in several parts of the capital, triggered widespread displacement as residents sought safety from heavy gunfire and explosions. Humanitarian agencies have warned that many of those displaced are now in urgent need of shelter, food, water, and medical assistance.

UNHCR expressed concern over the impact of the violence on civilians and called for efforts to protect non-combatants and prevent further displacement.

The clashes come amid heightened political tensions in Somalia, with international partners increasingly urging all sides to pursue dialogue and avoid actions that could further destabilize the country.
