Friday, June 5, 2026 (Baidoa Online) -Former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and the security personnel accompanying him have been allowed to proceed after earlier roadblocks were removed in Mogadishu’s Shangani district, according to local sources.

The development comes after a tense security standoff on Friday in which Sheikh Sharif’s convoy was initially stopped by security forces while travelling through the capital. Witnesses reported that the convoy, which included senior military officials, was halted and remained stranded for several hours as armed security units sealed off sections of the road.

The incident, reported earlier, involved a convoy said to be moving from the Mirinaayo area when it was intercepted upon entering Shangani district. At the time, no official explanation was provided by authorities, and the situation prompted mediation efforts amid heavy security deployment in the area.

Local sources now confirm that the roadblocks have since been lifted and movement restrictions eased, allowing Sheikh Sharif and his accompanying forces to continue their journey without further obstruction. The convoy is now reportedly heading toward the former president’s residence in Mogadishu.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement explaining the reason for the initial stoppage or the subsequent clearance of the convoy. The lack of clarity has left unanswered questions about what triggered the security intervention and how the situation was resolved.

The incident has drawn significant attention in Mogadishu, coming amid heightened political sensitivities and ongoing debates over security coordination and political engagement between government institutions and opposition figures.
